ONE OF MY PASSIONS IN LIFE is designing and tying flies, something I love doing for myself and other fly fishers who pursue salmon, char, trout and grayling. Reflecting on life-changing float trips to explore rivers in Alaska, I’m finding I have another passion, perhaps the reason why I’m into designing and tying flies for AK fish… being on the water and wetting a line knowing a tug will come… being in the company of like-minded fishers… in the pristine wildness of Alaska.
This experience… all in …is transformative, moving one to reach deep into one’s soul and providing answers that may not come during the day-to-day. I’ve gradually decided I have become an Alaskan fly ‘designer’, as opposed to a fly ‘tyer’. My client base has developed to point where I no longer need to sell fly patterns and can focus on improving a line of great signature flies for Alaska.
With that, the next logical step is to shift the focus of Alaska Signature Flies (ASF) to one that conveys the total Alaskan fly fishing experience. Fly patterns will be featured on ASF Flies, with an emphasis on tutorials. Alaskan Waters will soon have a comparison of the Goodnews and Kanektok float trip experiences. Angling Art will be expanded to include artists such as… Bob White, Eric Knowlton and Dan Daly. New words from Wild River guides John Jinishian and Peter Jaacks will provide insight from behind the oars.
Posts on the Alaska Signature Flies web site… via the ASF blog …are planned highlighting float plane shots, wildlife and gravel bar camping.
Stay tuned… I know you will be pleased with the transformation now in the works. May it inspire you to make the journey!
