WOODEN BOATS EXIST in all manner of shape and style, with the common element that inspires many to LOVE their boat… it’s made of wood. Some even name their boat after their fascination with a wooden boat… in the case of Greg Hatten, his river drift boat is aptly named… Obsession (pictured above).
Another industry that needs boats to thrive is fishing… wood has been a traditional material to make boats from the earliest days to contemporary times for people who fish for subsistence or livelihood. One such contemporary fish boat is the Island Provider (left), based in Ladner, BC… a 54 foot long by 15.5 foot wide wooden boat. Built in Lantzville, BC, by Federick Peterson in 1977, she was originally named the ‘Briny Mist’ then renamed ‘Island Provider’ and started out as a west coast freezer troller, then was later converted to a long liner and packer.
To launch Wooden Boats, Inspired Spaces is featuring just two of many, many different types of wooden boats. Be sure to revisit the IS web site as this INSPIRATION portfolio expands to include more wooden boats of all shapes, sizes, styles and function.
