WAKING UP OR BECOMING AWARE OF THE ESSENCE of WHO we are as living beings is the broadest, deepest experience for humanity. For it is in ‘waking up’ that we begin living life as we were meant to at a higher level of consciousness.
I had the very good fortune of being ‘woken up’ in 1976 by an individual – Sydney Banks – who experienced a profound spiritual revelation. One could describe his extraordinary moment as the Great Awakening. The friendship between Syd and myself was immediate and flourished through the years that followed until his passing in 2009. I attended gatherings where he was teaching the 3 Principles to everyone who was interested in living life from the inside out. At one such gathering in San Jose, California in 2007, I sensed a heightened awareness the moment I walked into the building where Syd was speaking. Something was up and, while I couldn’t immediately identify what, this heightened awareness remained for the duration of the conference.
This shift continued in my day-to-day experiences long after Syd’s talk; this being something of the norm when one listened to a very wise spiritual being. The impact of his talk at this conference would prove to be the same.
Some months later, I was evolving a concept for a long-time client that was founded on Einstein’s famous quantum expression about the energy of all matter in the universe. Syd’s talk in San Jose added clarity to the amplification of Einstein’s expression, leading to an insight I had about defining the 3 Principles in quantum terms.
The first step was to explore key words that were coming into my mind… metaphysical, principle, elements …which led to others based on words Syd used during his talks to convey the essence of the 3 Principles. I shared my initial explorations with Syd and he was very intrigued, asking me to simplify my writings and distill it down from 2 1/2 pages to a single page.
In this single page refinement, I provided the following quantum expressions for the 3 Principles and a derivative that Syd spoke of when he described the formless essence and our psychological experience in the world of form…
Where the Essence (of life) is the infinite combinations of Mind, Consciousness and Thought. Restating this expression to define ‘compounds’ in life, as a combination of ‘elements’ in our psychological experience, lead to…
Where Compounds (in life) are the infinite combinations of Mind, Consciousness and Thought (the ‘elements’ of existence as we know it).
Regardless of what term or value one would choose to substitute for the left side of these expressions, the right side is always a constant… the infinite combinations of Mind, Consciousness and Thought. Adding footnotes to amplify essence and elements used in these expressions led to a further restatement as… Mind, Consciousness and Thought cannot be resolved by any means into a simpler form, as no simpler form exists.
With that, I emailed this expression for the 3 Principles to Syd, then followed up with a phone call. He appreciated receiving the refinement and noted he would share it with the quantum physicists he was speaking with to get their feedback.
At the close of our phone call, I thanked him for sharing at the San Jose conference, noting I was aware of something very different at the beginning and throughout the conference. He thanked me, then asked… “How do you know?” My reply… “In all the years that you and I have known each other, how many times have I called you to talk about the 3 Principles? This week alone it has been five times!”
His response… a Scottish chuckle …was all I needed as confirmation that my experience at the San Jose conference was indeed different, resulting in a heightened awareness in my life from that point forward.
