IAN’S SPECIAL ~ When I was first introduced to this fly in the early 90s I honestly didn’t think much of it. To me it seemed like just another attractor pattern to add to my growing list of flies. Twenty-six years later and several miles of pearl mylar tubing this fly has become a BC favourite to include in your fly box.
Designed by Ian Montgomery for pursuing Pacific Salmon in the Clayoquot Sound region, Ian’s special fly ~ Monte’s Zuma ~ as it was originally named, has gone through some evolution over the years. My current reproductions of this staple is not only used up and down the BC coast, this pattern has also made its way into some of our local rivers. It’s tied in a coronation of colours to suit most angling needs with small custom sizes designed for targeting bull trout and cutties.
