ONE OF THE MANY BENEFITS an independent gets to enjoy is ‘calling it’ when work and play begin and end. For some these two realities are interchangeable, which makes it a lot more fun, more enjoyable!
My soulmate and I have the pleasure of taking a substantial amount of time off in July and August, and perhaps more importantly away from our permanent residence in Ladner, BC. Not only is it a change in pace from work and the ‘buzz’ associated with living on the Lower Mainland, the peaceful respite we enjoy while away at our ‘home away from home’ on Salt Spring Island – aka the Rock – is a heavenly break. It’s a great time to kick back, relax and recharge… and this varies each year, depending on what we and our friends on the Rock are up to.
While we’re on the Rock, we enjoy activities that give us pleasure… visiting with friends without having to ride a ferry to get there and back, paddling our canoe at sunset on a calm ocean, hiking one of the numerous trails on the Island, enjoying a relax on our beach at Bader Beach down the road from our place or enjoying a glass of wine together while we watch the sunset… and more!
All worthy of the time we invest in work, our home in Ladner, our daughter and her family in Steveston, and the occasional visit from our son, his partner and their dogs. Come July 1st, we are packed and ready to go!
A sampling of the many sights we enjoy during our summer. Further updates will be posted on the IS Blog in the days and weeks ahead. Watch for ’em!
